OverviewMetal expansion joints are typically manufactured using hydraulically formed (hydroformed) metal bellows. For opportunities that require smaller or equal sizes, greater stroke length, or increased expansion, BellowsTech manufactures edge welded metal bellows expansion joints. As the pressure or temperature of liquids and gases increase or decrease, an edge welded metal bellows can compress up to 75 percent and expand up to 25 percent of its standard free length. Manufactured from stainless steel, special alloys, or Titanium, BellowsTech metal bellows offer a wide range of media compatibility. Metal expansion joints can be manufactured in a variety of shapes, sizes and lengths. With application details, BellowsTech engineers can design an expansion joint using standard tooling or custom configurations. End pieces can also be designed or specified. With in-house machining capability, lead time can be minimized and quality controlled. Edge welded bellows expansion joints are capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, various media, and shock and vibration. Metal bellows can be used from cryogenic temperatures to greater than 1200°F with proper material selection. Certain rubber expansion joints can become brittle at cold temperatures and not reach high temperatures due to material properties. With fourteen material options including stainless steel, Inconel, and Hastelloy, our metal bellows can withstand most common liquids and gases as well as many corrosive ones. From sour gas and salt water to liquid and gaseous hydrogen, BellowsTech can meet customer media requirements. Edge welded bellows also offer extreme flexibility to withstand and absorb shock and vibration in typical industrial applications. For applications requiring higher pressure ranges, BellowsTech can offer thicker diaphragms or use two-ply bellows construction to add strength. While the overall flexibility will decrease, it is typically still greater than competing technologies.
